Summer Camps

When I picked my kids up from camp last summer, I was amazed by all they had done and how much they had grown. They kept talking about the canoes, swimming in the lake, and all the fun they had with their new “camp friends.” The next Sunday at church they were eager to share with anyone who would listen about where they saw God that week. When the brochures came out this winter, all I heard was, “Have you signed us up for camp yet?” Needless to say, they are going this summer, and taking their little brother with them.”

Are you looking for a camp to send your child to where they will learn, explore, and grow in faith? Where they will experience God’s love through the beauty of creation and the relationships they build with new friends and caring mentors? Where they will not only have fun, but also learn skills and values that will carry them forward through life? You’ve come to the right place.

We are committed to providing quality experiences and a safe environment.

Camp Latgawa is located in a beautiful wooded area of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. Two gentle flowing creeks and giant Douglas Firs, Pines and Madrones provide a shaded and peaceful setting just 35 miles east of Medford, Oregon.

The Camp Latgawa Experience

“Wow, what an awesome and incredible week at Camp! I was challenged, frustrated, supported, and successful. I can’t believe the people I’ve met, and the friends I have made will be life-long…I feel closer to God and feel like my soul and spirit have been renewed…Here I feel comfortable and happy being a Christian. I’ll leave this camp with a better sense of self and joy.”

~Senior High Camper

While each camp program is unique, there are a number of things that each camper who comes to Camp Latgawa will experience!

God’s Creation

Camp Latgawa is blessed to be in a place where God’s creation truly feels alive – from the time your child wakes up and steps outside to the fresh scent of the madrones, to the afternoon when your child gets wet playing near the waterfall, to the evening when your child goes to sleep after gazing at the majestic beauty of the stars. Camp Latgawa will immerse your child in a setting that will inspire them with its beauty and teach care for the diversity of God’s creation.

Learning to Embody God’s Love

In all we do, we aim to teach campers what it means to follow the ways of Jesus, to experience the love of God, and to embody that same love wherever they go. Together we practice living out love in community by honoring the “Respect Rule” – respect yourself, others, and the environment. Campers return home with a greater understanding of God’s love and a greater ability to share it.

Campers learn what it means to follow Jesus through daily themes and age-appropriate activities for spiritual exploration. Campers are invited to ask questions and explore what living in Christian community means to them.

Fun, Engaging Activities

At Camp Latgawa, we know that children grow when they’re given opportunities to try new things in fun, engaging environments…so we give them a lot of opportunities! They’ll play games, splash in the waterfall or the pool, sing songs around a campfire, make arts and crafts, learn how to canoe or kayak, and go hiking.

Depending on which camp session they choose they also may have the opportunity to test their aim at archery, build teamwork and communication skills, go canoeing, or learn more about the unique local ecosystem in environmental games.

Caring and Skilled Mentors

Mentors make a huge difference in children’s lives. That’s why we carefully recruit, screen, and train camp leaders to be positive, Christian role models in your child’s life. Camp Latgawa’s adult leaders come from all walks of life – pastors and students, teachers and retirees. What all share is a passion for working with children and youth and a desire to serve God and spread love in the world.

We train the counselors and leaders in a variety of skills including faith development, positive discipline, conflict resolution, health and safety, safe boundaries, spiritual practices, and facilitating small group discussions. During training, leaders also learn how to put the camp curriculum into action.

Blessed Bunks and Baths

We make sure your child will have fun and be comfortable in one of the rustic cabins. Their cabin will be an important home base where they’ll spend time with their counselor and become close friends with up to six other campers in their cabin. It will also provide the core group for the covenant they make expressing how they’ll create a Christian community by living out their faith together for the week.
